I believe that a Student Council contributes towards a positive school climate by giving students a voice and involving them in decision making at an appropriate level. Student Council is a powerful way of developing a sense of citizenship, community and responsibility. I have set up and run Elementary School Student Councils in four schools.

Our Elementary school student council meets every week. Currently, students are working on improving the playground spaces and recess times. So far the Student Council reps have conducted surveys to gather ideas from each grade level. They have come up with suggestions and have worked in action groups to contact appropriate teachers and heads of school to get advice and permission to implement their ideas. This is a work in progress.
